Recloser

ATA Electric ® has products and services related to three-phase  and single phase reclosers for the different levels of voltage 15kV, 27kV and 38kV and high levels of Short-circuit currents  interruption. Reclosers supplied by ATA Electric® have test certificates from Independent Laboratories and  RETIE Product Certifications valid internationally.

Description

Reclosers are protection and switching equipment used mainly in  Medium Voltage systems (15kV, 27kV and 38kV). The use of reclosers seeks to reduce time in which users or electrical installations are without power before the occurrence of transient short circuits.

Benefits

The recloser is the most important element of distribution networks because of its advanced features which integrate the functionalities of Interruption, Protection, Maneuvering, 6-Pole Voltage Measurement and Current Measurement in the 3 phases which allows to implement multiple functions of reclosing protections, overcurrent, undervoltage, overvoltage, phase loss detection among many others, as well as integration to SCADA systems and implementation of automatic substitution schemes, FLISR and Loop Automation focused on improving SAIDI and SIAFI.

When to use reclosers?

1.
The installation of reclosers for Energy Distribution Companies is suggested requiring improvement of their indicators SAIDI and SIAFI, beacause according to statistics of Electric Power Distribution companies transitory failures are between 70% and 80% of the total failures that occur in the networks of distribution.
2.
It is suggested to install reclosers in Clusters or Oil facilities (Oil& Gas) to increase reliability, facilitate maintenance and guarantee the supply of energy to the pumping elements for the processes of transport, extraction and other critical processes for the industry Oil & Gas.
3.
Recloser installation is suggested for Unregulated customers who want to obtain a reduction or improvement in the kWh rate and improve reliability and quality of energy supply or quality of power. In these cases it is possible Request connection to 15kV, 27kV or 38kV medium voltage networks.
4.
Reclosers are also used to protect power transformers that are in Medium Voltage substations and Low voltage 38kV / 440V or 15kV / 440V located in the customer / user facilities.

Where to install reclosers?

  • Energy Distribution Companies

It is suggested to define the strategic points for the definition of the reclosers taking into account the frequency of the faults, the type of loads and their criticality, among other factors typical of the planning exercise aimed at regulatory compliance and increased profitability or return of the investment. Here are some cases where reclosers are normally installed when it comes to Power Distribution Companies:

    A. In overhead circuits that present constant disconnections due to transitory faults.

    B. At the head-ends of circuits, either in primary substations (AT / MT) or in secondary substations (MT / MT), reducing investment costs in cells and additional civil works.

    C. At substitution points either manual or automatic through FLISR or Loop Automation schemes.

    D. At strategic points in the circuits to differentiate critical loads and higher impact customers. (Eg Hospitals, Factories with high consumption, Clients with the highest number of failures).

  • For Petroleum and Oil & Gas Industries

     A. Installation of recloser in Clusters.

    B. Installation of reclosers in Maneuver Centers.

    C. Installation of reclosers in distribution networks.

  • For Industrial Customers and Non-regulated Customers

     A. Installation of reclosers at the Common Connection Point (CCP) in 15kV, 27kV and 38kV networks.

    B. Installation of reclosers for transformer protection.

The use of reclosers in unregulated clients allows these types of users to access better levels of reliability, quality of service and better rates of kWh, as it allows them to connect to medium voltage networks at 15kV, 27kV or 38kV.
